About the Clinician
Anna J. Thompson
MS, LPCC-S, RPT
Anna J. Thompson, MS, LPCC-S, RPT is the owner of Urban Plains Counseling. She has been a counselor for 17 years and a Registered Play Therapist for 11 years. Anna has gained her work experience in urban and rural areas working with a diverse background of clientele, both in home and in office settings. She works with children, adolescents, and adults.

Anna specializes in play therapy, trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, women's issues, LGBTQ issues, and parenting support. Her approach to counseling is collaborative and client-centered. She is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Concordia College and her master's degree in Community Counseling from Minnesota State University Moorhead.
In addition to counseling, Anna provides supervision to counselors who are seeking licensure. She has also been active on professional boards, including the North Dakota Counseling Association and the North Dakota Association for Play Therapy.
Anna lives in Bismarck with her husband, two children, and goldendoodle.
